Well I got bored and mixed down a ’single version’ of the song D Street from the unreleased album, Blue. (music: Chris and Erik, vocals: Chris). This song was recorded in 2002 with Erik on the baritone guitar and Chris (that’s me) doing vocals and guitar. It definitely sounds like the songs on our previous release F***ed Up and was a lot of fun to write and record….
We recorded this in our old house in Aurora, CO (our neighbors loved us). We were using DMAN2044 soundcards and CEP to multitrack. It’s kind of a pain in the ass to convert the old stuff to Sonar’s multitrack format, but you only have to do it once… I Believe the guitar was recorded with an Audio Technica ST90 (a pretty cheap, dull sounding mic; I still have a few) and a Shure SM57. It sounds like I’m playing one of my Tele’s through my Fender 4×10″ tweed amp with maybe a bit of tube compression on the recording (hard to say with any certainty though).
I’m not sure what we used to record Erik’s baritone guitar. It’s definately going through an amp and not being recorded direct. Probably a Sennheiser dynamic and a Shure 16A condenser mic (I used to use them a lot on the older stuff). We didn’t have any high end mics back then, but made due with what we could afford.
The vocals are (obviously) another SM57. I always use the 57 for my live vocals (and I use it for my vocals in the studio a lot, even though we now have some pretty nice vocal mics now).
